There is a general period and reduced periods
The residence period is not the same for every applicant. The general rules include:
- 10 years as the general period.
- 5 years for people who have obtained refugee status.
- 2 years for nationals by origin of Ibero-American countries, Andorra, the Philippines, Equatorial Guinea or Portugal, and for Sephardic applicants under the legal framework.
- 1 year in specific cases provided by law, including certain applicants born in Spain or married to a Spanish citizen.
Check your nationality and residence history
The relevant period must be checked together with the legal character and continuity of residence and the other requirements of the application.
